A 4A -graded botanical garden at the foot of Wutong Mountain, opened in 1988, and the quietest large space in a city that has very few. The supervising bureau lists it as open 06:00-21:30 with ticketed entry only between 08:00 and 18:00 - before eight and after six it is free - at 15 yuan for adults, 10 yuan on public holidays . It holds 13,116 taxa as of the end of 2025, including one of the world's largest cycad collections (240-plus species) and over 1,300 ferns, roughly a tenth of all fern species on earth; the fossil forest, the desert glasshouse and the bald cypresses that turn red in December and January are what people come for.
Read the full note Before you go The ticket is the problem, not the price. Fifteen yuan is nothing, but the garden's e-tickets are sold only through two WeChat official accounts - 深圳市仙湖植物园 and 美丽深圳 - and the bureau's page says flatly that tickets bought on any other platform will not get you in; the same page says the ticket is then verified against your ID card at the gate, and there is no published procedure for a foreign passport. If you cannot use WeChat, plan to arrive before 08:00 or after 18:00, when entry is free and the ticket question does not arise; sunset over the lake is the better visit anyway. Once in, remember no private car may enter at any hour, the walk from the gate to the temple is a real climb (or 3 yuan on the shuttle, 07:00-18:00), the palaeontology museum has been closed for refurbishment with no reopening date, and the garden shuts entirely on a typhoon yellow or thunderstorm orange warning. At Chinese New Year it is a different place: in 2026 the district government capped it at 60,000 timed tickets a day (30,000 for the New Year's Eve night), with police traffic control on Luosha Road, Xianhu Road and the other surrounding roads, and no vehicle without a pass allowed in. Something wrong here? Tell us → Not this Xianhu is not Shenzhen's only botanical garden - it is the 4A one in Luohu, under Wutong Mountain. The old site szbg.org still shows a 20-yuan fare on a page dated 2014; the current figures are the bureau's 15 yuan and 06:00. Hongfa Temple is inside the garden but is run separately - the garden ticket is not a temple booking.
