Guangzhou Opera House
Zaha Hadid's 'twin pebbles' (2010) at the north-west corner of Huacheng Square — the building that put the new axis on the architecture map, with an 1,800-seat opera hall shaped like a canyon. You can go inside without a performance: the house runs guided tours (Chinese only) Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-16:00 in hourly batches, ¥15 a person, real-name, and its own ticketing page explicitly accepts passports for the booking. Book at least five working days ahead; the auditorium closes to tours whenever a company is loading in or rehearsing, which is often.
Tour: the house's ticketing site gdm.gzdjy.org ('参观导览门票') or phone 020-38392401 / 020-38392287 (Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00), at least five working days ahead, one booking per ID per day; groups of 10+ ask 15 working days ahead. Performances: gzdjy.org, the house's app, 4008-808-922VerifiedSource ↗
Passport required; see details for entry handling. Real-name; 'visitors use an ID card or other document (passport, HK/Macau or Taiwan permit)' to book, and bring the original plus the confirmation SMS to the theatre shop meeting point
gdm.gzdjy.org → 广州大剧院参观导览门票 → choose weekday/weekend ticket → enter each visitor's document (passport accepted) and write the batch time in the remarks → wait for the SMS → on the day, ID original + SMS at the theatre shop.
Weekend batches carry no guide fee and are the ones to book; on weekdays every batch adds a ¥100 Chinese-guide fee on top of the ¥15 tickets, which only makes sense for a group. Whatever you book, the auditorium may be off-limits that day for stage work — the tour then covers the foyers.
Tours are guided in Chinese only — 'no English guiding service for the time being' (ticket page). Performance surtitles depend on the production.
